New Mattress

In preparation for my upcoming nuptuals the fiance and I purchased a new bed.  The story of this is pretty humorous to start with.  She’s Chinese and randomly told me one day that I had to buy us a new bed.  I was okay with this and had planned on purchasing a new bed for us anyway since my existing mattress has a big dip in the middle now.  This dip would have been amusing at first since I imagine every time I jump in the bed it would cause the bed to fling her bodily through the air at me and we’d meet in the middle.  I can see this losing it’s charm quickly however.  Anyway I digress.  Apparently there is some Chinese custom about a new bed but she, embarrassed, said she wouldn’t explain it to me and said I should ask my friend Gamera.   Gamera explains to me that apparently if the woman buys the bed it means she’s basically “throwing herself” at the groom.  She should have just lied and told me it was just some random tradition because from then on I INSISTED she purchase the bed 🙂

Weather Worries!

Looks like we’re in for some weather at my wedding.

Hanna, Ike, and Josephine! Ahhh! We’re praying they turn north enough that we get some sun while we’re down there. We knew it was a risk going in September during hurricane season. We’re still hoping things turn out okay! I can have fun anywhere so I’m not too worried but I don’t know if my guests feel the same way. I’m really appreciative of the people that cared enough to make it so the weather upsets me the most for their sakes.

Venison Stuffed Peppers

So I decided to get a little creative today with my dinner and created a new recipe. My recipes always tend to be pretty simple because A) I’m lazy, B) I’m not that creative, and C) I’m lazy. I’ve only invented one other recipe which I’ll post up next time I make it (venison curry/chili). Since this turned out well I wanted to write it somewhere so I can make it again and I figured I’d share it for any other single guys that are lazy but want to make something that tastes AND looks good.

The only difficult to find ingredient that I used is a Korean BBQ sauce. The name is in Korean and I don’t speak Korean. I put the picture on the right so you can print it out and hunt for it at your local Asian super market.

Ingredient List:

* 1 lb ground venison (I’m sure beef works too)
* 1 onion, chopped
* 3 Bell Peppers. I prefer yellow and orange peppers but green would work if you like them.
* Korean BBQ Sauce
* 6 slices of American cheese.
* Some sesame oil

Put some sesame oil into the pan on high. Then throw the meat and onions into the pan along with the BBQ sauce. You just need enough to get the sauce on all the meat. Don’t drown them. Stir occasionally until the meat is browned. With venison you want to get rid of any pink at all. While this is cooking, cut the peppers in halves and clean out the seeds and scrape out any white areas on the inside (throw those away). Once the meat is done, let it cool a little (so you don’t burn yourself stuffing) and set your oven to warm to 400 degrees. Line a pan with some tinfoil. Put the pepper halves on the foil and stuff them full of the cooked meat and onions. Try to avoid getting any of the oil/grease. The venison is juicy enough without it. You just want the meat/onions. Once the peppers are stuffed, cover each with a slice of cheese and throw it in the oven. Change the oven from bake to broil, and let it broil for 8 mins, which should be just enough to melt the cheese, and just barely start browning the peppers/cheese. If you see browning, take it out, it’s done. Let it cool a little, and eat 🙂

Makes 6 peppers halves. I ate all 4 that I made but a normal person would only eat one if you cooked some sides. I tend to only cook a main dish and nothing else 😛 The picture is a bad angle so you can’t see the different color peppers on the plate. Look at the ones in the background on the stove top.

Goodbye Bachelor Days

The Best-Man at my upcoming wedding took care of his bachelor party duties this weekend. Knowing my desire to actually stay engaged he wisely opted for a much more tame gathering of friends to cheer the loss of my freedom. The day started with an enjoyable round of 18 holes at Little Bennett golf course. It was the third course I’ve been to, and was by far the nicest so far. We had two groups of three, and played “best ball” against each other. The front nine my team of Benny, Brian, and myself won by 2 strokes. At the back nine we switched up the teams a little due to perceived imbalances that began to form due to ethanol interference. This backfired though as the beer ran out and people began to sober up causing the new Brian, Brian, and Nick team to defeat the Benny, Justice, Alex team by six strokes.

After the golfing we went for dinner at my favorite Yuraku where we consumed large quantities of “naked” fish. And I was pleasantly surprised by Ciprian, Carey, and Chris showing up to join us for dinner. Now having 1 “A”, 3 “B”s, and 3 “C”s the alphabet was shaping up nicely. Our waitress seemed a little confused and asked us “Aren’t you supposed to be out looking at strippers?” when she found out this was my bachelor party but got the umbrella for the picture on the right to the delight of my companions. I ordered the table the infamous stuffed peppers that Sunny (the chef) makes and enjoyed watching the delight or torment on everyone’s faces depending on how spicy the piece they grabbed was. Ciprian and I also had some wasabi tobiko which everyone else declined to try after having gone through the pepper treatment.

After dinner a few folks left for home but the rest of us finished the evening at my house trying the different types of moonshine I have from my family in Tennesee as well as the delicious Emporer’s Brand Imperial Vodka which I’m happy to see that Alex felt was also good quality. If a Russian with as picky tastes as Alex says it’s good, then it’s good. The evening finished with drinks and conversation as people dwindled home and finished with just Alex and I left discussing the state of the world late into the night like so many times in the past.

Not the normal type of Bachelor Party that people expect, but one I quite enjoyed and prefer. Benny did a great job organizing everything and I hope everyone had a good time 🙂

Scribing Sorrows

I believe I complained before about the Mobile Sumo’s panel lines. I spent the evening doing some basic seam line sanding, and either rescribing sanded away lines, or purposely sanding them away to rescribe them because the originals DON’T MATCH. You’ll see it go up to a line of flash, and be a millimeter or two to the side before it continues on the other side. No wonder modeling was so big back in the day. You really had to put a lot of work into these kits to make them look good. I can’t complain too much I guess, it gives me something to do until I get an airbrush. I’m not done with them yet, but figured I’d make a post to complain about them 🙂
